We will shoot long exposures of the bustling city at dusk as well as Los Muertos Pier. You will learn how to create stunning seascapes and long exposure cityscapes using different camera settings and filters. We will also explore painting with light and create images with flashlights and, when available, shoot the fire-dancers on the beach. Depending on the scheduling of your course, you will either receive hands-on lessons on shooting the moon or you will practice the art of creating star trails.

Receive comprehensive lessons that can be applied to all of your photography subjects. Each workshop comes with a detailed handout highlighting all of the topics we covered in the course. All of our students are invited to join our online community where they can continue to receive photography support and participate in our themed challenges.

All skill levels and camera types can benefit from our courses as we tailor our workshops to each individual student’s needs, interests, and skill levels. You can expect to have a better knowledge of exposure and your own camera by the end of the workshop. If you are planning on using a camera phone, please advise us beforehand so we can recommend photography apps to use during the course.

From hobbyist to amateur photographer, or the entrepreneur trying to reach customers with better quality images, our workshops are for everyone! Our courses are designed to focus your attention toward developing skills while learning new techniques.

There is no better souvenir than stunning photos of your amazing trip! Share your experiences and art while wowing your friends with your new photography skills! Your night images are sure to be a big hit among your friends and family!

We will meet at the corner of Olas Altas and Fransisca Rodriguez near Taqueria El Cunado

(Francisca Rodríguez 104, Zona Romántica, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal.)

About the lesson: After meeting at our location, (listed below) we will have a long exposure demonstration in which you will photograph the traffic of the Romantic Zone to capture motion trails of headlights. We will then walk a few blocks to Los Muertos Pier and apply the same long exposure techniques while shooting the pier. Depending on the date of the workshop you will then either participate in shooting the moon and moonlight photography, or star trails during a new moon. We will discuss both techniques regardless of which we practice. Lastly we will create some images using the technique ‘painting with light,’ in which we will use flash lights to paint and draw onto our images. If available we can also shoot the fire dancers at the Blue Shrimp restaurant.

Need to know:

  • Tripods are required for Night Photography. If you need to request a tripod please do so as soon as possible as supplies are limited. We can also recommend a local rental location.
  • Remote triggers and cable releases are also recommended.
  • Make sure you have a fully charged extra battery. Long exposures use much more battery life.
  • We will be shooting and walking along the beach. If you would prefer not to you can shoot from the pier and the boardwalk.
  •  For your comfort, please make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes.
