PUERTO VALLARTA PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Puerto Vallarta is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Mexico and for good reason! With the incredible food, scenery, beaches, sunsets, and amazing people, there is no better location for a Photography adventure.
Explore Zona Romántica up close and personal with a walk around Lázaro Cárdenas Park, Los Muertos Beach and the surrounding neighborhoods rich with colorful murals, street art, and classic Mexican architecture. You will learn how to create stunning portraits using natural light and flashes.
Receive comprehensive lessons that can be applied to all of your photography subjects. Each workshop comes with a detailed handout highlighting all of the topics we covered during the course. All of our students are invited to join our online community where they can continue to receive photography support and participate in our themed challenges.
This 3 hour workshop offers the perfect opportunities for portrait photography lessons! We will discuss and demonstrate the importance of composition, posing, lighting, and camera settings like depth of field, white balance, and exposure compensation.
Every workshop is tailored to each group of participants. This means we will assess the skill levels and particular interests of all the group members to decide which locations to spend the most time at, which photo subjects require the most focus, and what other subjects may need to be covered. Due to how often our workshops run, many are private or very small.
The workshop takes place between Lazaro Cardenas Park and Los Muertos Pier. We will be stopping along the way to use different backdrops for our model in different lighting environments.
We will meet at the gazebo in Lazaro Cardenas Park. (Lázaro Cárdenas 175, Zona Romántica, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal.)
We begin the session with an informative lecture and follow it with a comprehensive, hands-on portion where you will practice the discussed techniques and assignments. This is repeated at the next location. During the hands-on portion, each student will receive one-on-one instruction and review with the instructor. Everyone will have the chance to choose the location and pose the model. All of the students will practice capturing each others directions as well.
All skill levels and camera types can benefit from our courses as we tailor our workshops to each individual student’s needs, interests, and skill levels. You can expect to have a better knowledge of exposure and your own camera by the end of the workshop. If you are planning on using a camera phone, please advise us beforehand so we can recommend photography apps to use during the course.
About the lesson: We will begin with an introductory lecture and demonstrations in the park and have some hands on practice posing the model. Our lessons include shooting in different lighting scenarios and we will be using reflectors and flashes to modify our lighting. As we walk to Los Muertos Pier we will stop at a few popular PV locations to capture more images of our model. Our workshop will end on the pier or beach as we finish our lesson with shooting in harsh light.
Need to Know:
- You are encouraged to bring some portrait lenses and lighting equipment, but regardless of what you have, you will learn new techniques to capture amazing portraits.
- If you also have a friend who would like to participate, you are more than welcome to bring your own model too.
- While not required, polarizing filters are wonderful for this application!
- For your comfort, please make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes.
After leaving this workshop, you will have the confidence to capture stunning portraits on your own in all lighting types.
